Fun Read [Smarter #3]
Summary, if you’re not ready yet for Friday Fun Reading that could change your weekend and life:
You, and Taylor Swift, could be making more money. The secret is scale.
Scalable AI passive income means:
a) changing an executive's mindset,
b) getting AI to find pain points,
c) customizing your passive income product to your expertise.(AI prompt below, so you can make AI passive income yourself.)
Content is always 100% handwritten by yours truly. AI messes up my writing, and maybe yours. See below example.
Friends,
You're financially savvy, value your time, and are curious how AI can make you passive income. I like that about you.
That being said, yes I personally wrote this. Not AI.
You're a C-suite, serial entrepreneur, or world impactor who increases your net worth by working smarter, not harder.
Who am I again? Bio in the newsletter footer.
Just catching up? Start with [Smarter #1]. Really.
Why You're Successful
Mindset.
Your brain, social capital, and career maneuvering got you to the C-suite. Your company may have produced medicines, consumer goods, or advertising campaigns. But let's get real. Most people racing up the corporate ladder fill their days "gaining stakeholder alignment" and shuffling papers in the form of PowerPoint.
What got you the massive stock options won't get you the massive AI passive income. Here's why.
You, and Taylor Swift, Could Be Making More Money
If you're like me, or anyone born before 2000, you might be equally confused why Taylor Swift's engagement announcement broke the internet. Technically, it didn't break anything besides Instagram's repost record. Taylor's proposal photos with the simple line, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," surpassed 1 million reposts within 6 hours.
For context, wars are raging. Vaccines are facing an existential l crisis. Most catastrophically, our love affair with sugar is killing us. Instead, humankind goes nuts over this.
What does Taylor Swift have to do with you? Despite being arguably the most influential star in modern history, she doesn't make enough money. Why? Her money is made mostly through blood, sweat, and 125 shows around the world. All in the pursuit of overthrowing the previously richest singer in the world: Rihanna.
If Rihanna's been less in the news recently, there’s a good reason. Her last album came out in 2016. But shows are not how Rihanna makes money. She's a billionaire from making stuff. Makeup. Lingerie. Product partnerships. Rihanna doesn’t have to step on a stage to enrich her bank account. Store credit card swipes do it for her.
Taylor flies around exchanging time for money. Rihanna and all her stuff make money while she sleeps. And when you're a consultant like me, or any W2 employee, you can see the analogy.
Making Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of
AI has to make me stuff. That alone is a brain flip for someone who spent two decades using her noggin as her moneymaker.
Once realizing that, I asked AI to:
a) scour LinkedIn, Reddit, and X for stated pain points. Professionals ranting online are both underserved and more likely to buy AI-generated content than counterparts reading McKinsey reports.
b) match opportunities to my background,
c) suggest AI-driven, no-code, low-maintenance digital product ideas,
d) rank top opportunities by highest revenue, lowest effort, and best match to my background.
If you're curious about yours, here is the prompt.
When I first scanned AI's ideas, I scoffed. Ebooks? Adult coloring books? I didn’t sit at the corporate table with powerful Boards of Directors just to make preschool-for-adults widgets.
But I thought more about it. AI also suggested career coaching. Sure, I could teach someone how to get into Google. Or negotiate an overseas expatriate package. But if I offered more than what anyone could find online, I’d need to host 1:1 coaching sessions. That’s Taylor’s business model. Not Rihanna’s.
I'm working on my first digital product, suggested by AI. What is it? Read next week's newsletter to find out.
Smarter Human vs. AI Writing
I finger-typed this entire newsletter. Could AI have done it for me faster? Yes. Would the newsletter be more succinct and clear? Probably. But I always feel disappointed and cheated after realizing the content I consumed was AI generated. I'm assuming you do, too.
But what happens when writing isn't one of your favorite pastimes? For LinkedIn posts or sensitive emails, I find people have a hard time writing because they don’t know what to say. As someone who does improv comedy, I never struggle with ideas overflowing out of my head. To friends with less loquacious fingers, I often suggest getting AI to write a version for idea generation. Then, physically writing a new draft yourself. That's ironically the fastest and most straightforward way to communicate your voice. Plus, it is surprisingly tedious to wordsmith AI content into your own style.
Ps: an AI-generated version of this newsletter would also look like this. Not terrible. But not sent with love, from me to you.
Until next time,
Rachel
